Michael Garnett Walker, age 82 of Harrisburg, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Michael was born on February 10, 1939, to the late Amado Walker and Virginia (Garnett) Bentley in Harrisburg. Michael married Edna Williams on June 11, 1962. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage together. Michael was a retired coal miner and a very skilled carpenter by trade and enjoyed working with his hands. He was very proud of his motorcycle and loved to ride every chance he had. Michael was well-respected by his family and his community. His family described him as a wonderful man. They also said he had a great sense of humor and was very witty. Michael was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
Michael is survived by his wife, Edna; ten children, son, Larry Portee of Carrier Mills; son, Jay Green and wife, Pam of Maywood; son, Jerry Hall and wife, Denise of Charleston, West Virginia; daughter, Gina Apuzzo and husband, Tom of Plymouth, Minnesota; daughter, Angela Rouse and husband, James of Maywood; daughter, Hope Greene and husband, Terry of Eclectic, Alabama; son, Michael Walker and wife, Heather of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; son, Shane Walker of Harrisburg; daughter, Miko Moses and husband, Myron of Atlanta, Georgia; and son, Bronston Walker and fiancée, Stephanie of Harrisburg; 28 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Green of Elgin; sister, Jeri Stewart of Harrisburg; sister, Paula Bentley of Elgin; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by grandchildren, Shana Jo Walker and Jordan Campbell; brother, Dickie Walker; sister, Phyllis Rollins and sister, Johnnye Harell.
Graveside services for Michael Garnett Walker will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg. Brother Joe Colon will officiate. Those wishing to attend should gather at the cemetery. All wishing to attend should wear a mask and practice social distancing.
