Obituary

     Glen Norman Schwartz, age 89, of Harrisburg, passed away at 7:50 PM, Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at The Anchor of The Voyage Senior Living in Marion. 

     Glen was born on November 20, 1931 in Harrisburg, Illinois to the late, Floyd and Rita (Isaacs) Schwartz. On April 13, 1975 he married Carla Joan Denny and she preceded him in death on October 13, 2012. 

     Glen ran a radiator repair shop at Bankston, of Harrisburg, with his dad, Floyd Schwartz. Glen worked as a coal miner for Sahara Coal Company, The Progressive Mine Workers of America, and was a former Carrier Mills Police Commissioner and a former Deputy Sheriff that worked with the Saline County Court Security which he enjoyed. Glen was a United States Navy Veteran where he served as a medic and also was a member of the Recruit Training Command Drill Team. Glen was a 32nd Degree Mason and formerly a member of the Harrisburg Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Land Street Church of God where he was a very active member. Glen was an ordained minister and did volunteer work at IYC and the Harrisburg jail. He was a silversmith and a maker of Indian Jewelry, he was also a member of The Sons of Liberty Gun Club and an avid fisherman. Glen did have a funny side to himself and never met a stranger.

     Glen is survived by two children, Stanson Schwartz and his wife Lynn of Harrisburg and Kathy Atkinson and husband Mark of Harrisburg; a sister Linda Byron and husband Kenny of Harrisburg. One niece Tami Hanson and husband Don of Harrisburg and one nephew Kevin Byron and wife Claire of Arkansas. There were several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great grand nieces, great grand nephews, also aunts, uncles and cousins.

     Glen was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carla Joan Schwartz, and a brother, Billy Dean Schwartz.

    Private funeral services were held. Memorial contributions may be made to The Anchor of The Voyage Senior Living, c/o Sherry Barter Hamlin, 1500 Sandbar Drive, Marion, Illinois 62956 or Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, Illinois  62959.
