Ray Jonathan Wallace was born on March 2, 1957 in Harrisburg, IL to the late Evelyn Loriene Green Wallace and Willia Kestner Wallace of Womble Mountain, south of Harrisburg, IL. He married Lisa Walker Wallace on November 10, 1990, who survives. He passed away at home at the age of 62 on October 6, 2019.
He was a criminal justice graduate of Southern Illinois University and worked as a Casework Supervisor, later Assistant Superintendent of Programs, at Illinois Youth Center in Harrisburg for 32 years before retiring in 2013. He was also a licensed gun dealer, officiated over 300 weddings, was a multi-township tax assessor for nearly 40 years, and has been the republican precinct committeeman for Mountain township since the 1980s. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1058 and Rudement Social Brethren Church. He loved planting trees, mowing the lawn, collecting antiques, and working on the family land. He never met a stranger and never hesitated to stop and help others out, especially the many friends and family he cared about.
He loved and is loved by his children: Blair (Robert) Zenker of Lebanon, TN; Blake (Jenn) Walker of Yakima, WA; Caitlin (Andrew) Wallace-Rowland of New Orleans, LA; Kelsey Valentine Wallace and Jillian Rae Wallace of Harrisburg, IL; and Emily Stockdale (Danny) of Salem, Oregon; and grandchildren: Evelyn Zenker, Georgiana Zenker, Jackson Zenker, Ruby Stockdale, Henry Stockdale, Laurel Rowland, and Arya Walker. He is also survived by his sister, LeAnn Wallace of Raleigh, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel. Eric Gregg and Rev. Barry Bascom will officiate and there will be a private burial following. Visitation will be held from 3 PM to 8 PM Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wallace Family Cemetery.
