John Charles Hollaway, Sr., age 64, of Harrisburg, passed away at 5:10 PM, Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
John was born on December 26, 1954 in Harrisburg, to Charles Hollaway and Mildred Jean Hollaway Elam. John married Lou Ann Decker, the mother of his children and he later married Tammie Mincey on May 23, 1998. John was a self employed Brick and Block Mason. He was an artist in his craft. John was Mormon by faith and a member of the Pine Castle Masonic Lodge in Orlando, Florida. He was formerly a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. John loved his family and friends; he was very proud of his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews. John enjoyed playing golf and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
John is survived by his wife, Tammie Hollaway of Harrisburg; five children, John Hollaway, Jr. and wife Holly of Orlando, Florida; Jamie Piazza of Orlando, Florida; Roger Hollaway of Harrisburg, Illinois; Ryan Small of Chester, Illinois; and Dustin Small and wife Brittney of West Frankfort, Illinois; mother, Mildred Elam of Harrisburg; six grandchildren, Zane Hollaway, Evan Piazza, Kendyll Piazza, Riley Vazquez, Madison Small and Lillian Small; brother, David Hollaway of Harrisburg; sister, Cydney Hollaway of Harrisburg; sister, Becky Voice of Harrisburg; nieces and nephews, Sydney Hollaway and wife Michelle, Courtney Riggs, and husband Jason, Bobbi Jo King and husband Justin, Kane Carrigan, Tara Riggio, Hunter James Voice, and Jonathan Meadows; aunt, Gynelle Baccus and husband Don of Carterville, Illinois; and good friends, Mike and Cyndi Cummins, Donna Duncan and Tom Brown.
John was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hollaway; brother, James “Jimmy” Hollaway; uncle, Chalres McDonald, and foster brother, Kenny Hutchinson.
Funeral services for John Charles Hollaway, Sr., will be held at 4 PM, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Bro. Jack Ratley and Bro. James Stearns will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2 PM to 4 PM, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Lindale Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
