Bernard Russell Carter, age 78, a resident of Galatia, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Herrin Hospital.
Bernard was born June 11, 1940 in Hamilton County to Warner Russell Carter and Monette (Bozarth) Carter. Bernard married Karen Stephens on January 16, 1960, and she preceded him in death on February 26, 2005.
Bernard enjoyed small engine repair and he worked hard at his business Carter’s Small Engine Repair in Galatia. He loved to fish, enjoyed horses, horseback riding and his dog, Candy. He was a loving Father and Grandfather.
Bernard is survived by his four children, Stephen R. Carter of Galatia, IL; Cara Davenport and husband Jimmy of Harrisburg, IL; Jody Carter of Harrisburg, IL; Bernard R. Carter, II and wife Tammy of Galatia, IL; mother, Monette Carter; twelve grandchildren, Karen Puckett of Galatia, IL; Jonah Carter and wife Samantha of Eldorado, IL; Jamie Farris and husband Chuck of Eldorado, IL; Tenika Carter of Galatia, IL; Josh Walker and wife Shayla of Harrisburg, IL; William Walker and wife Ashley of Galatia, IL; Nichole Walker of Galatia, IL; Mindy Taylor and husband Steven of Galatia, IL; Lacye Grebenick and husband Charles of Galatia, IL; Joseph Carter of Galatia, IL; Gabrielle Carter of Galatia, IL; thirty-five great-grandchildren, brother, David Carter and wife Sue of Ohio; sister, Susie Lewandowski of Chesterton, IN; sister, Shirley Gunter of Portage, IN; sister, Debbie Carter of Lake Station, IN; special friend, Sheila Dewar; best friend Rev. Don Nelson and several nieces and nephews.
Bernard is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Carter; daughter, Ginger Grebenick; father: Warner Russell Carter; grandson, Nathan Walker and sister, Janie Lambert.
Services for Bernard will be held at 3 PM Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Tate’s Chapel Cemetery North of Galatia. Visitation will be held from 1 PM to 3 PM Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be left for the family at www.reedfuneralchapel.com.
