Tom went to be with his Lord early in the morning, Tuesday, January 26, 2021. He was a resident at Shawnee Rose Care Center and a victim of COVID-19.
Tom was an honorable, kind gentleman. He knew nothing but the rewards of hard work and made sure his descendants knew that. He was a man of few words, yet you always knew where you stood with him, and his comic wit and keen intelligence were such a pleasure.
Tom was a life-long hunter, fisherman and gardener. He retired from the Harrisburg school system and enjoyed these as long as he was able.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Rose and Alta (Robinson) Rose and two sisters, Alene and Sylvia Lorene (Rose) Butler. In 2011 Tom lost the love of his life, Shirley (Hamp) Rose. They are all reunited now.
Surviving Tom are his two daughters, Valerie (Rose) Mitchell and husband, Tim Mitchell; and Vickie Ann Rose. Tom’s beloved grandchildren survive as well, Karl Cossey and wife, Lisa; Krystle Rose Sands; Kurtinaitis Thomas Sands and fiancé, Cassie Richardson; Arik Woolard and wife, Whitley; Sarah Roseann Smith and husband, Mike. He was blessed with four great grandchildren, Anna and Olivia Cossey along with Elizabeth Louise Woolard and Natalie Grace Smith. Also surviving are two nieces and a nephew, Delores (Butler) Sandefur; Helois (Butler) Wooldridge; and Donald Wayne Butler; all of Golconda, Illinois. Many, many cousins and wonderful friends survive, all with great memories of a rare man.
