Mata Ruth Motsinger, age 87 of Harrisburg, passed away at 7:26 AM, Monday, December 28, 2020, at Reflections Memory Care.
Mata was born on November 15, 1933, to the late Orvil and Fern (Trout) Hester in Sandoval, Illinois. She married Virgil Motsinger on June 5, 1955, and he preceded her in death on March 2, 2011. Mata was a grade school, teacher for over 35 years, having taught at East Side, Phillips, Logan Grade Schools in Harrisburg and at Woodlawn Grade School. Before teaching and immediately after graduating from McKendree College, Mata worked in the Naval Department at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Mata was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg; she was also active in Methodist Women. She was a member of Xi Theta Tau Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Methodist Women, Women’s College Club, and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. Mata loved cooking, working in the yard, gardening, and going to her grandkid's sporting events. She enjoyed walking and was affectionately referred to as “Speedy Gonzales”. Besides being the consummate coach's wife, Mata also played college basketball at McKendree College. Her family referred to her as the glue that held the family together.
Mata is survived by three children, Mark Motsinger, and wife, Jackie of Harrisburg, Mike Motsinger and wife, Melonie of Harrisburg, and Amy Simpson of Marion; six grandchildren, Caleb Motsinger of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Gabriel Motsinger of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Masen Motsinger of Collinsville; Marcella Lane and husband Joe of Marion; Mcartney Motsinger of Harrisburg; and Abigail Simpson of Marion; brother, Leroy Hester and wife Nancy of Sandoval; and sister, Pat Heinrich of Centralia; step-grandchildren, Brittany Tucker and husband, Michael; Garrett Jones, Caitlin Jones; and Ana Blackman and husband, Jacob; and step great-grandkids, Landon and Adley Jones; Jaden and Deaton Tucker, Lane Baker, and Alex Rayborn.
Graveside services for Mata Ruth Motsinger will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on Shed Church Road, Crab Orchard, IL. Rev. Dr. Alan Rhein and Rev. Dr. Tom Logsdon will officiate and burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on Shed Church Road in Crab Orchard, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
