Marion William Riley, 77, of Harrisburg went to be with the Lord at 11:13 AM, Tuesday, February 22, 2002 from Harrisburg Medical Center.
Marion, affectionately known as “Bubba”, was born to John W. Riley and Ira Bell Henry in Princeton Kentucky. Marion was baptized at an early age. Later in life, he served as a deacon at Mounty Pleasant Baptist Church. Marion loved the Lord and his church.
Marion attended Harrisburg High School and Southeastern Illinois College where he earned his associate degree in engineering. Marion worked for Illinois Bell, later known as GTE, and retired after 26 years of service as a drafting clerk, draftsman and construction detailer.
Marion married Carolyn Dixon in 1989 and from this union they were blessed with 3 children, Shawnna Denise Desrochers (Riley), Johnathan Benjamin Riley and Brandi Nicole Riley.
Marion was active in church and as a Boy Scout Den Leader. He enjoyed sports and was a Kiwanis baseball and softball coach for years. Marion enjoyed gardening, landscaping and serving his Lord.
Marion was preceded in death by his mother, Ira Bell Coney and father, John W. Riley.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Carolyn Riley; daughter Shawnna Desrochers; son Johnathan Riley; and daughter, Brandi Riley; sister, Rosetta Ester; sister, Clara Noel; six grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services for Marion William Riley will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Ownly Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
