Kenneth Dale Fulkerson, age 77 of Harrisburg, IL, passed away at 7:04 PM on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, IN, due to complications of COVID-19.Kenny’s wife, Vicki (Bayne), held his hand as he met his creator in Heaven.
Kenny was born on Saturday, September 4, 1943 to the late George and Bessie (Banks) Fulkerson. He and Vicki united in marriage on November 1, 1975 and over those 45 years created a wonderful life with forever lasting memories.
Kenny provided for his family working in the mining industry for more than 40 years. “Wormy,” as he was known in the mines, worked at Peabody Eagle No. 1 and No. 2 mines, Eagle Valley Mine, Arclar Coal Company, and Rogers Group Rock Mine in Louisville, KY. Upon his retirement, Kenny began driving a school bus for Robinson Transport and Harrisburg schools where he became affectionately known as “Mr. Kenny.”
Kenny met Jesus Christ and accepted him as his Lord and Savior at an early age attending Dorrisville Baptist Church where he was a member. In Christ’s spirit, he was a gentle, kind, loving man who never met a stranger and would help anyone at any time without hesitating. He found joy in everything he did including riding horses, camping, fixing anything broken, western movies, fishing, making sweet tea, and good food. Above anything else, Kenny loved his family and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren earning the title of #1 Pa.
In addition to his wife, Vicki, he is survived by son, Alan Fulkerson and wife Karen of Harrisburg; daughter, Kathy Prather and husband Zack of Carrier Mills; son, Jeremy and wife Misty of Harrisburg; and daughter, Crystal and husband Jeremy Palmer of Harrisburg; twelve grandchildren, Kirstin Heberer, Kory Heberer, Brandon Fulkerson, Lexee Fulkerson, Hayden Fulkerson, Ryli Fulkerson, Deacon Palmer, Kannon Palmer, Nicholas Prather, Dylan Hall-Prather, Avhileen Hall-Prather, and Allie Prather; three great-grandchildren, Rylee Heberer, Kaydence Heberer, and Kruz Heberer. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Margie Fulkerson as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by brother, Randall Fulkerson; sister, Wanda Prather; brother, Larry Fulkerson; brother, Don Fulkerson; and great-grandson Kamden Day.
Visitation for Kenny will be held Friday, December 18, 2020 at Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg from 5 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, December 19, 2020 with Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg.
