John Steven Wilson, 66, of Carrier Mills, passed away at 8:25 AM, Monday, April 11, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Steve was born on June 21, 1955 in Harrisburg, to Robert Donald “Don” and the late Margurerite Alleen (Bradley) Wilson. He married Jennifer Evetts on August 20, 1977 and she preceded him in death on February 14, 2013.
Steve most recently worked at SIMX as an over-the-road truck driver. Most will remember him as an employee of Raben Tire for over thirty years. Steve also worked for Rister Brothers Farms for over thirty years and was a volunteer firefighter for over thirty years. Steve was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carrier Mills and Boy Scouts of America. He loved to hunt, fish and camp. However, it was his grandchildren that were the love of his life. His family said that Steve was a great grandfather to his grandchildren. They also said that he never met a stranger. Steve was the former mayor of Carrier Mills and also served on the City Council.
Steve is survived by two children, son, Jonathan Tyler Wilson and wife, Amber of Carrier Mills; daughter Jillian Wetzel and husband, Joshua of Evansville, Indiana; four grandchildren, Kallison and Kennedy Wilson and Piper and Lennox Wetzel; father, Don Wilson; special friend, Amanda Stacey of Stonefort; seven siblings, sister, Dianna Gliwa and husband, Jim of Chicago; sister, Louise Lee of Springfield; brother David Wilson and wife, Linda of New Orleans, Louisiana; brother, Greg “Torch” Wilson and Cookie of Harrisburg; sister Mary Butler of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Larry Wilson of Harrisburg; and brother Chris Wilson and wife, Suzanne of Columbus Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Jennifer (Evetts) Wilson; mother, Margurerite Alleen (Bradley) Wilson and brother-in-law, Dennis Lee.
Funeral services for John Steven “Steve” Wilson will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Christopher Wise and Rev. Don Nelson will officiate and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM, Friday, April 15, 2022 with a Broken Arrow Ceremony beginning at 7 PM at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Grace Baptist Church and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
