John Dwain Padgett, age 79 of Carrier Mills, passed away at 4:30 PM, Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
John was born on September 5, 1940 in Eldorado to the late Vernie and Katie (Penrod) Padgett. In December of 1989, he married Helen Runyon and she survives. John worked on the Alaskan Railroad and earned his Master's degree from Alaska Methodist University in 1964 where he majored in International Economics, and had minors in Anthropology and Sociology and a condensed 101 in all fields of study. John served his country in the United States Airforce as a 2nd Lieutenant and was on 30 day notice to be deployed to Vietnam when President Nixon stopped the deploying troops to Vietnam.
In addition to his wife Helen, John is survived by a son, Jason Padgett and wife Elena of Federal Way, Washington; three granddaughters, Megan Padgett, Jacqueline Padgett and Katerina Padgett; grandson, John Padgett III; two brothers, Vern Padgett of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kenneth Padgett and wife Marilyn of Tacoma, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, son, John Padgett, II; grandson, Jason D. Padgett, II and a sister, Georgia Hardin.
