Mechanic 03

James Leo Dale Cash

April 7, 1941 ~ February 27, 2022 (age 80)

Obituary

     Jim Cash, 80 of Stonefort, Illinois and formerly of Portland, Tennessee. went peacefully to his Heavenly home Sunday, February 27, 2022 with his baby girls by his side. His late wife, Alice Rhea (whom he loved dearly) preceded him in death on January 2, 2008.

     Jimmy was born April 7, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to Harry and Iris Cash, then later was adopted by his maternal grandparents, Merrill and Leila Strater of Ivesdale, Illinois. He also lived with a very beloved uncle, Charlie and aunt, Clara Horath and their children in Hoopeston, Illinois, whom he deeply loved.

     He was the oldest of 7 children:

brother, Bruce Merrill and wife, Kathy Thomas (they survive);

sister, Rebekah Lynn, (proceeded him in death) and her husband, Dallas Underhile (he survives);

brother, Bradley Houston, (proceeded him in death) and his wife, Jeanie Thomas (she survives);

sister, Annita Jean, (proceeded him in death) and her husband, Mehmet Ozanour (he survives);

brother, Douglas Allen, (proceeded him in death) and his wife, Pat Thomas (she survives);

sister, Christine Renee Thomas (she survives).

     Life for him was full of ups and downs with plenty of twists & turns. With lots of unanswered questions. He married Ruth (Calvert) Mackiewitz January 19th, 1962 in Danville, Illinois (they didn't have any children together but 4 of his grandchildren were her great nieces & nephews). She survives.

     He then married Violet Kroll on September 30th, 1972 in Milford, Illinois. Together they had 3 children. She survives.

     To keep himself occupied from all of the obstacles of life, you might find him working on diesels, cars, transmissions, woodworking, picking and grinning with his friends or playing his guitar and singing with his old country band.

     But his most prized possessions were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They made him so proud of each one and he loved sharing stories, jokes and wisdom with each.

     He was looking forward to the June arrival of Josiah Calvert and what this year was going to bring.

     Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.

     Later in life he decided to lighten his load, he surrendered his life over to Christ & made peace with all the wounds that scarred him & caused him to stumble in his earlier days that weighed him down. He was able to get the closure on his past that he had been desperately searching for and the healing began with his love for Bible studying. He always told us that there's consequences for the choices we make in life and if anyone knew this better it was him. He had quit smoking 12 years ago and told everyone he met that he wished he had never seen a cigarette.

     Even though we prayed for a complete healing for his lungs, he got a new set in Heaven all because, like he said, there is consequences for the choices we make in life. So, when he chose to accept Christ as his Savior he gained Eternal life. That's the best gift a loved one can receive.
