Jack D. Yates, age 90, of Harrisburg, passed away at 7:53 AM, Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Reflections Memory Care in Harrisburg, Illinois.
Jack was born on January 2, 1931 to the late James O. and Velva (Beal) Yates. On August 30, 1952 Jack married Lou Ann Dallas, and she survives in Harrisburg. Jack graduated from SIU in 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Jack returned to Harrisburg to teach at Malan Junior High. He was also a Guidance Counselor at Harrisburg High School and then Principal at Horace Mann and Westside Elementary. Jack was very involved at First Christian Church teaching, serving on the board and through music. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, golf, Indian relic hunting, barbershop quartet singing, marble collecting and travelling. He spent many hours watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Jack is survived by his wife Lou Ann Yates of Harrisburg; two children, daughter, Jan Yates Rutledge and husband Ken; son, Jeff Yates and wife, Arrawhanna; grandchildren, Josh Rutledge and wife, Jacki; Gabe Rutledge and wife, Lori; Elizabeth Casey and husband, Tim; great grandchildren, Joel and Jude Rutledge; Drake, Hadley, Grady and Jazzy Rutledge; Hannah and Cameron Casey; brother, Robert B. “Bege” Yates; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, James Yates, Jr. and sister Betty Lou Yates Borders.
Private services will be held. Rev. Biff Moore will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Condolences may be left for the family at his obituary page at www.reedfuneralchapel.com
