Obituary

     Howard Eugene “Gene” Lyon, age 82, of Harrisburg, passed away at 2:14 PM, Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Villas of Hollybrook, surrounded by his family.

     Gene was born on March 23, 1938, in Harrisburg, Illinois, to the late Gene Woodrow and Tillie (Mizell) Lyon and he was raised by Tillie and Toby Pelhank after Gene’s death.  On June 21, 1958, he married Marianne Alexander, who preceded him in death on February 6, 2017.  Gene was an International Vice President of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers union. He was an avid milk bottle (Dairy Brand) collector and enjoyed antiquing. Gene absolutely adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

     Gene is survived by his children, daughter, Julie McRoy and husband, Tim of Harrisburg: son, David Lyon and wife, Lisa of Harrisburg; son, Toby Lyon and wife, Shannon of Harrisburg; son, Kenny Jenkins and wife, Terri of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Andrea Craig and husband, Jono of Springfield; Aaron McRoy of Harrisburg; Alexander McRoy of Harrisburg; Lydia Montgomery and husband, Jake of Harrisburg; Chloe Caldwell and husband, Luke of Phoenix, Arizona; Brook Crane of Phoenix, Arizona; Madison Medley and Jaden Crissup of Benton; Garrett Jenkins of Harrisburg; Kaelyn Stevens of Harrisburg; Taylor Stevens of Harrisburg and Daulton Stevens of Harrisburg; great grandchildren, Phoenix Womick, Elleyet Rose, Finn David Caldwell, Kylar Jane Medley, Hudson Montgomery and Baby Craig, due in July, 2020; brother, Larry Lyon of Lansing, Michigan; sister, Linda Taylor of Harrisburg; brother, Dee Pelhank and wife, Mary Jane of Harrisburg; brother Lee Pelhank and wife Martha of Marion and several nieces and nephews.

     Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marianne, and sister, Kay McArthy.

     Private graveside services will be held. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First Church of God Building Fund or Hospice of Southern Illinois, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
