Harvey Doyle Hedger

July 22, 1928 ~ March 6, 2020 (age 91)


     Harvey Doyle Hedger, age 91, of Harrisburg, passed away at 7:15 PM, Friday, March 6, 2020 at Harrisburg Medical Center.

     Doyle was born on July 22, 1928, in Junction, Illinois, to the late Harry Donald and Bernice (Tapp) Hedger, Sr.  On January 1, 1953 he married Carsa Brinkley and she survives in Harrisburg.  He retired from the State of Illinois as the manager of the Public Aid Department. Doyle was a member of the Oasis Community Church of the Nazarene in Harrisburg and he served in the Army National Guard.  He was an officer of the Saline County Museum, taught Sunday School and was the Choir Director at McKinley Avenue Baptist Church and sang in the Shawnee Chapter Barber Shop Quartet. He loved to read, travel, music, the outdoors; fishing, gardening, flying model airplanes and exploring the Shawnee National Forrest. Doyle was an excellent father and provider. He and “Mozart” are together again.

     In addition to his wife, Carsa, Doyle is survived by his son, Mark Hedger and wife Denise of Sullivan, Illinois; grandson, Gabe Hedger of Columbia, Missouri; granddaughter, Annie Hedger of Maplewood, Missouri; sister-in-law, Anita Hedger of Soldotna, Alaska; sister-in-law, Mollijean Frazier of Metropolis, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Grover Dickerson and Lowell Patterson.

    Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harry Donald Hedger, Jr.; brother, Jack Dale Hedger; brother-in-law, Vernon Wasson; sister-in-law, Sadie Wasson; brother-in-law, Ben Brinkley; sister-in-law, Shirley Brinkley; brother-in-law, Bob Brinkley; sister-in-law, Shirley Brinkley; brother-in-law, Charles Stephens; and brother-in-law Ralph Frazier.

     Graveside services will be held at later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oasis Community Church of the Nazarene and envelopes will be available at the funeral home and cemetery.  Condolences may be left for the family at the obituary page at
