Donny Ray Hall, Sr., age 68, of Harrisburg, passed away at 7:12 PM, Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, Kentucky, surrounded by his family.
Donny was born on November 30, 1952 in Harrisburg, to the late John Patton and Marcella Hall. Donny married Janice Kay Thompson on October 8, 1999 and she survives in Harrisburg. Donny served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a coal miner, farmer and mechanic and had worked at Willow Lake Mine and most recently for Richwood Industries in West Virginia. Donny loved spending time with family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was always there for his family. Donny also loved to ride motorcycles, fish, camp, dance and working on vehicles.
In addition to his wife Janice, Donny is survived by five children, Michael Hall and wife Amanda of Harrisburg; son, Donny Ray Hall, Jr. of West Frankfort; son, Shaun Michael Gwaltney and wife Betty of Eddyville; daughter, Connie Givens and fiancé Joseph Parr of Eddyville; and daughter, Kimberly Brasher and husband Jason of Harrisburg; eleven grand children, Payton, Ashton, Jonathan, Amber, Teygan, Montana, Brooklyn, Shane, Jersey, Taylor, Triton and Briley; four great-grandchildren, Malikye, Toby, Jase, and Axel; sister, Linda Hall of Harrisburg; brother, Orbie Hall of Harrisburg; brother, William Dean Hall and wife Kim of Benton; and sister, Dorothy Mayberry of Harrisburg; two special friends, Adam Givens, and Chester Smith; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Donny Ray Hall, Sr. will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Shawn King will officiate and burial will follow in Big Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM, Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Reed Funeral Chapel.
