David W. Wiman, Jr. age, 76 of Harrisburg, passed away at 10:32 AM, Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.
David was born in Memphis, Tennessee on June 22, 1944 to Rev. Dr. Wayne and Helen (Bright) Wiman. He graduated from high school in Fayetteville, Tennessee in 1962 and from Murray State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in 1966. He played on the varsity tennis team at Bethel University in 1962 to 1964 before transferring to MSU. He spent most of his career as a teacher, coach, counselor, and jr/sr high principal. He was the Director of Guidance at Southeastern Illinois College for several years. He was named to “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” in 1990 and again in 2000. He retired from the Hardin County School System as an administrator in 2005. Dave also worked in the insurance business for a few years and held a broker’s license for 20 years. He was a charter member of the Illinois Psychometrists Association. Dave was a registered basketball and volleyball official in the IHSA, calling men’s high school and college basketball games and women’s high school and college volleyball matches in the 1970s and 1980s. He always loved sports and became an avid pool player in many pool leagues with his wife Toni. Many years were spent boating on the Ohio River and taking trips with friends on the Tennessee, Cumberland and Ohio rivers. His later years were spent fishing on local lakes and camping throughout the country. Dave was a 50+ year member of the Harrisburg Elks Lodge and held offices as Lecturing Knight, Treasurer, and Board Member.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Helen Wiman, and step mother, Louise Irene Wiman; and is survived by his wife Toni of Harrisburg; son Robert Wiman and wife Lisa of Harrisburg; sister, Vicki Wiman of Tallahassee, Florida; stepson, Mike Pearcy of Mt. Home, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Shai Pearcy of Melbourne, Australia; Jared Wiman and wife Shauna of Harrisburg; Jacob Wiman and wife Ame of Harrisburg; Jay VanZant and wife Kayla of Harrisburg; Quinlyn VanZant of Benton, Missouri; and Alyson VanZant of Bartonville, Illnois; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services for David W. Wiman, Jr. will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until 1:00 PM at Reed Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 N. Lakeview Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60614-2256, for student scholarships. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
