Charles "Chuck" Eugene Hankins

     Charles “Chuck” Eugene Hankins, age 88, of Harrisburg, passed away at 9:15 PM, Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family.

     Chuck was born on November 1, 1931, in Saline County, Illinois, to the late Robbie and Helen (Travelstead) Hankins.  On February 22, 2003, he married Phyllis (Mitchell) Jones and she survives in Harrisburg.  Chuck was the owner of an employment agency, and worked as an Economic Development Director and he also moved houses. He received a bachelors degree in business administration from SIU in 1960. He was a member of the Saline County Historical Society, the Harrisburg American Legion, served as president of the 2nd Infantry Division Veterans Organization, and was a Rotarian. Chuck was passionate about genealogy, he was an avid horseback rider mostly in the Shawnee National Forest and served as a trustee for the North America Cemetery.

     In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Chuck is survived by four children, son, Greg Hankins, of Delaware, Ohio; daughter, Carrie Hankins, of Portland, Oregon; daughter, Marcie Hankins, and wife, Nancy Lafferty of Indianapolis, Indiana and daughter, Jennifer Budd, and husband Terry of Mentor, Ohio; four grandchildren, one great grandson; brother Kenneth Hankins and wife, Carla, of Galatia, Illinois; and six nieces and nephews.

     Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Noel Lee Hankins; and a nephew, Robbie Lee Hankins.

     Private family graveside services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to North America Cemetery, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  Condolences may be left for the family on his obituary page at
