Bob Lee Davis, age 88 of Harrisburg, passed away at 6:30 AM, Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg.
Bob was born on May 26, 1932 in Carrier Mills to the late Will F. and Anna Mae (Puckett) Davis. He married Gaynell Hudnell on July 24, 1952 and she survives in Harrisburg. Bob worked for Sahara Coal Company for 19 years in the office and he also worked for Amax Coal Company in the warehouse. Bob was a member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church and a US Navy Veteran who served aboard the USS Midway during the Korean War. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Bob was an avid golfer who loved to hunt and fish until he got “hooked” on golfing. Bob also enjoyed music and singing and performed in a quartet and a trio, and he even used to play Taps for military funerals while he was in high school.
Bob is survived by his wife, Gaynell Davis of Harrisburg; son, Mike Davis of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Brent Davis and wife Ashely of Harrisburg; Amanda Moore and husband Nathan of Harrisburg; Jenna Gunning and husband Craig of Harrisburg; and MacKenzie Davis of Sumerville, South Carolina; six great grandchildren, Addison Moore, Nolan Moore, Samuel Davis, Isabelle Davis, Ruby Kate Davis, and Carver Lee Gunning; a sister, Clara Ruth Ammon of Carrier Mills and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Janet Lynn Holman; sister, Helen “Tootsie” Travelstead; sister, Maxine Davis; and one sister in infancy.
Funeral services for Bob Lee Davis will be held at 1 PM, Friday, November 20, 2020 at McKinley Avenue Baptist Church. Rev. Billy Dye, Jr. will officiate and burial will follow in Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM, Friday November 20, 2020 at McKinley Avenue Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Everyone wishing to attend is asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Spring Valley Cemetery and envelopes will be available at the church.
