Thomas Daniel Gore, age 71, of Harrisburg, passed away at 5:00 PM, Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
Thomas was born on November 2, 1948, in Harrisburg, Illinois to Virginia (Webb) Pankey. He was raised by Virginia and Richard “Red” Pankey. On November 9, 1968 he married Marilyn Lane and she survives in Harrisburg. Thomas joined the Navy in 1965 and served for four years. After his service in the Navy he started a roofing business known as G & T Roofing. He eventually expanded into carpentry work. Thomas again served his country in active guard reserve for the Army National Guard, serving as a supply sergeant out of West Frankfort, Illinois and later transferred to Marion and retired as an Administrative NCO. During his retirement he volunteered for the Williamson County Sheriff’s Auxiliary for 18 years. Thomas was also a former Commander of the Harrisburg American Legion Post #167.
Thomas always put his family first. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was admired for his strength of character. Thomas was an avid firearms enthusiast. He enjoyed collecting guns, shooting guns, repairing guns and even building them. As a younger man he loved to coon hunt and later he loved automobiles, especially BMW’s. Thomas also loved music and was an accomplished harmonica player.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Marilyn Gore of Harrisburg; two children, son, Richard Gore and wife Kacy of Harrisburg; daughter, Shelly Boots and husband Gary of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Taylor Boots, Olivia Gore and Caleb Gore, all of Harrisburg; sister, Patty Holmes and husband John of Harrisburg; nephew, John Patrick Holmes of Harrisburg; nephew, Jason Gore and his wife Tracy of Schererville, Indiana.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael Eugene Gore.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Shannon Goolsby will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 2 PM, Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Harrisburg American Legion Honor Guard or the Wounded Warrior Project.
