Shelby Jean “Georgia Peach” Whitlock, age 81, of Eldorado, passed away at the home of her son, at 9:07 PM, Saturday, December 14, 2019.
Shelby was born on August 18, 1938 in Harrisburg, to the late Bernie and Thelma (Blades) Ewell. Shelby married Denzil Earl Whitlock on August 18, 1956 and he preceded her in death on June 23, 2001. Shelby was a member of Land Street Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg. She loved God, her family, her church, and her friends. She enjoyed her church, shopping, driving fast, and motorcycle riding. She was active in the Cancer Support Group at Little Chapel Church.
Shelby is survived by a son, Perry Whitlock and wife Jane of Galatia, Illinois; two grandsons, David Thomas of Ashville, North Carolina; Morgan Whitlock and wife Brianna of Harrisburg; four great grandchildren, three whom she helped raise, Deanna, Justin, Kaylie, and Bradleigh Whitlock; brother, Harold Wayne Ewell and wife Karen of Galatia, Illinois; sister-in-law, Carole Ewell of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; and nieces and nephews, David Ewell, Jonathan Ewell, Brian Ewell, Carrie Dehn, Nellie Canimore, Judy Beckham, Bennie Stricklin, Lee Ewell, Rickie Ewell, Rocky Ewell, Debbie Leffler, Mike Whitlock, Gary Whitlock, Wayne Whitlock, Donna Dunfee, Ralph Carter, and Sally Williford.
Shelby was preceded in death by her husband, Denzil Whitlock, daughter, Pam Thomas, parents, Bernie and Thelma Ewell, four brothers, John Ewell, Cletus Ewell, Bill Ewell and James Ewell; three sisters, Dorothy Stricklin, and two sisters in infancy; nephew, Mark Ewell and a brother-in-law, T. R. Whitlock.
Funeral services for Shelby Jean Whitlock will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Pastor Harold Ewell will officiate and burial will follow in Raleigh Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until 2 PM, Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
